U.S. Marshals: Scamming the scammed?
Kudos to the NY Times for unearthing a lawsuit against a high-level official at the U.S. Marshals Service. The November 2010 suit, filed by a U.S. Marshals whistleblower employee, alleges that the head of the USMS complex asset group may have been setting prices too low at auction–even the Madoff auctions, which benefit victims of the Ponzi scammer.
A copy of the lawsuit ,Suit-Says-U-S-Marshals-Mishandled-Forfeitures, details how the official also created his own private company to assess the value of auction items, which should have been done by an arms-length entity.
